A Story That Needs Sharing

Have you ever met someone, heard their story, marvelled at it and thought to yourself… man you should write a book? That's exactly how this new venture came about. Let me fill you in. We met a delightful Balinese couple through mutual friends in 2018. Over several years as our friendship grew, we discovered more and more elements of their story which truly amazed and captivated us. What resulted was a much bigger awareness of God's hand in people's lives and his powerful work in Indonesia.

Our family have always had a great affection for the beautiful island of Bali, its wonderful people, delicious food and relaxed atmosphere. Significant core memories have been forged over our many trips with friends over the years. Perth is somewhat isolated from the rest of Australia making travel within our own country a little complicated and rather expensive, however visiting Bali is relatively cheap and super convenient. In fact, it's almost like popping over to the neighbour's place! With an early morning departure you can be swimming in a hotel pool by lunchtime. What a blessing!

One night in 2024 over Zoom Bible Study at which our Balinese friend was a guest, after a time of mutual sharing I casually made the statement "man you should write a book!" to which my friend replied "many people have said that, I need support to do it". I told him I'd pray for him and his book idea. And I did.

God has been nudging me ever since, and this year, 2026 I took a leap of faith and after much prayer suggested I may be the one to write the book. So it's happening. What a blessing! A terrifically terrifying blessing!

I am acting as the "documenter", exploring how our friends faith journey is unfolding – how Jesus sought them out, redeemed them and gave them a mighty assignment for the growth of His Kingdom in Bali. Rather than writing a memoir or biographical style text I feel led to write this in the form of a novel, based on a true story, allowing the reader to go on an expedition of discovery and transformation with the main character.

Of course the real main character is Jesus! I'm excited to share this story with you all. This blog will be an outlet for sharing my process, as well as helping me stay accountable.

You will also find some of my thoughts and reflections on faith and scripture under the "In the Quiet" tab.

Thanks for joining me on this adventure.
